Why the Greek god Hermes is a perfect symbol for Neomasculinity

In an article entitled 7 Fundamentals for Western culture to help revive, I
mentioned the Greco-Roman culture as the main source of inspiration for
current and future efforts in the West, including Christianity and the
Hellenic past. I assume that many agree on this outlook, rather than
Westerners looking Vedic, Buddhist, Taoist and Islamic inspiration.
In this regard, a number of gods and symbols that may be of particular
importance for the parties readership. Those who represent almost the
essence of this site Sites mind. For example, if we take the concept of
neomasculinity as a starting point, we note that such things as gambling,
self-improvement, ethics, entrepreneurship, and virtue and men development
are important elements of it. This can in turn make them want to seek
appropriate symbols in Western history.
Such is relevant the Greek god Hermes, many of which have probably limited
understanding. Antoine Faivre's book Eternal Hermes: From Greek God to
Alchemical Magus (1995), and other sources, a more nuanced and complete
description of this divine figure complex and multifaceted emerges. I
propose to deal some of these dimensions and indicate which specific
aspects of particular importance in this context.
The multiple functions of Hermes
As the site is Greek Gods and Goddesses says:
Hermes was one of the 12 gods of Olympus and was god of commerce, thieves,
travelers, sports, athletes, and border crossings, the underworld guide. He
was the second youngest Olympian god and was the son of Zeus and Maia, one
of the seven Pleiades and daughter of the Titan Atlas.
As the god of boundaries and transitions, Hermes was known for being quick
and cunning and had the ability to move freely between the mortal and
divine worlds. It is this skill that makes him a messenger bringing luck to
the gods and intercessor between the mortal and the divine.
He is also the patron and protector of travelers, shepherds, thieves, and
spirit, rhetoricians literature and poets, athletics and sports, invention
and trade. In some myths Hermes is also portrayed as a trickster when he
outwit the gods whether for the good of humanity and for his own amusement
and personal satisfaction.
Homer and Hesiod portrayed Hermes as the author of qualified or deceptive
acts, and also as a benefactor of mortals.

In this regard, one can think of such phenomena as neomasculine game,
travel, stimulating physical, make money, upsetting the politically correct
people with the facts of hatred and memes, as well as a lot of knowledge
accumulation. The Roman equivalent of Hermes is Mercury, combined with the
market occupancy, but as clearly shown above this is one of many functions.
There are other facets of Hermes also include Hermes Trismegistus, the
author proclaimed Hermetica, the Greco-Egyptian sacred texts of the 2nd and
3rd century AD. They were translated into Latin in the late 15th century by
Marsile Ficin, compiled as the Corpus Hermeticum. This work has influenced
many writers of perennial school of religious philosophy (perennial
philosophy) and similar branches of thought.
Carl Gustav Jung individuation Ideas and the collective unconscious were
influenced by Hermes transcendent function, and Julis Evola wrote the
Hermetic Tradition, a work that deals with the esoteric teachings of
alchemy, different from both archaic cult of Hermes / Mercury Jung's
psychology, chemistry and primitive.

Generally, we can divide in Hermes Hermes-Mercury (Greek / Roman god) and
Hermes Trismegistus, but it is not that simple as noted Faivre:
At that time, we have not only a euhemeristic process, but also a reverse
euhemerism: Hermes Trismegistus is both mercury precipitation in human
history and sublimation of history at Olympus. These fluctuations, or
rather this double movement, promotes fluid genealogy and the presence of
several Hermeses.
In addition, there are overlaps not only between the two combinations and
numbers, as Hermes is associated not only with the Egyptian god Thoth, but
also Islamic and even Idris Jesus or the archange Michel:
It is no different in the Corpus Hermeticum, which sometimes presents as a
god Hermes, sometimes as a sage, and at other times as a follower of Us or
Divine Intellect. According to Arab tradition, his life is both physical
and temporal trans, like Elijah's, and even in his body, it manifests a
state of eternity. Pierre Lory said that Idris / Hermes is said to have
written poems, odes especially in Arabic, Hebrew and Syriac; so it rises
above sectarian divisions, transcends religious mysteries and chronological
time, and speaks the language of heaven, earth and man in the full state,
namely Arabic & # 8221.
Note, however, that after the rise of Christianity, the polemic literature
was written and directed to the Greco-Roman pantheon. The so-called Hermes
malefic character, a libertine, liar and thief, was highlighted by a number
of prominent Christian thinkers such as Sulpicus Severus and Lactantius.
During the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance periods, Hermes became an
important figure in the written culture, as the work of Giovanni Boccaccio,
De Deorum genealogia gentilium (1360-1374). In this regard Hermes / Mercury
Boccaccio linked to the planet and its so-called flexible in nature. In the
17th and 18th century, Hermes / Mercury has been shown many times in the
visual arts throughout Europe, but has taken a less important role apart
from those interested in the various local translations of the Corpus
Hermeticum. Instead most interest was generally taken Orpheus.
Interestingly, Hermes has also been linked to the figure of Don Juan,
especially the representation of chasing him a nymph. This shows the
versatility of Hermes, as well as different interpretations of the Olympian.

Conclusion
Overall, Hermes is an appropriate symbol for a lot of good and constructive
we cherish and consider important in current times. Those who control the
money, culture and can use athletics, spirit and cunning to get what they
want are BAIL influence both in private and public.
It is also of importance to repossess Hermes as a symbol after some wanted
to combine it with geeks and globalism, which shows how the deconstruction
of our past, if not a complete separation of it, working within radical
liberal. It is true that some of the greatest Romans considered him a
symbol of the merchants, and not even particularly Roman (rather Celtic or
Semitic), but the trade is actually part of the whole and there is no
reason to give the opposing team.
Such is the case with various occult and esoteric movements, although it
may be a false statement palpable to be considered a dark god because it
was Olympic and thus not even worthy of consideration for the sinister
arts. That said, all branches of Western esotericism are dark and evil, and
it is not even the Greco-Roman god that esotericians interested, but rather
a very specific aspect of this double digit. After all, Jesus was depicted
as a symbol for all the rights of homosexuals to extreme philanthropy and
Gnostic spirituality and there is not much to do about it.
Obviously a cult of Graeco-Roman god is not to be longed for. However,
Hermes as a historical reference and a symbol for many of the ideas
neomasculine seems quite relevant. For those seeking a deeper
understanding, & # 8217 Faivre; s book and Aesop's fables are good starting
points.
